Position of fail-safe The ball valve has two fail-safe positions that become effective when the single-acting rotary actuator is relieved of pressure as well as when the supply air fails, depending on the version of the single-acting rotary actuator: CLOSED CONTROL VALVE WITHOUT AIR SUPPLY When the supply air fails, the single-acting actuator closes the ball valve. Double-acting actuator valves, on the other hand, required an air supply to open and close the valve each time.
